Poultry chain link fencing – The Right Choice for Poultry Sheds in India

In poultry farming, the side wall material is important for ventilation, bird safety, and long-term durability. Poultry chain link fencing is one of the most practical choices for poultry sheds because it allows fresh air and natural light while helping protect birds from unwanted intrusions.

At Fencing India, we recommend 1.25” (31.75 mm) chain link mesh made from 16 gauge (1.6 mm) galvanized wire for most poultry farm applications. This size is widely preferred for mature birds, as it provides a good balance of protection, airflow, and economy.

Why 1.25" Chain Link Is Better for Poultry Farms

1.25" chain link is one of the most practical mesh sizes for poultry farms because it gives a strong balance between bird safety, airflow, visibility, and cost. Compared to smaller mesh, it is more economical for large farm areas. Compared to larger mesh, it offers better control and a more secure enclosure for poultry use.

Why 1.25" works well for poultry:

  • Better ventilation for poultry sheds and open farm areas
  • Good visibility for monitoring birds and enclosure condition
  • Practical bird containment for many standard poultry applications
  • More economical than smaller mesh sizes in many cases
  • A balanced choice between protection and project cost

For most poultry chain link fencing requirements, 1.25" chain link is considered a reliable and practical option for both sheds and boundary enclosures.

Product Assessment

Best For

This poultry chain link is best suited for poultry shed side walls, where ventilation, natural airflow, and protection from nuisance birds are the main priorities. It is especially suitable for broiler and layer poultry sheds that require an open, practical, and economical enclosure solution.

Main Strengths

  • 1.25” mesh size helps reduce the entry of crows, pigeons, sparrows, and other nuisance birds
  • 16 gauge (1.6 mm) wire provides a practical balance of strength and economy
  • 100 GSM galvanized coating offers suitable durability for standard poultry applications
  • Custom sizes available in mesh openings, wire thickness, and heights
  • Cost-effective for poultry farm side-wall use

Limitations

This product is designed primarily for poultry-specific use, not for high-security perimeter fencing or areas where protection from larger predators or forced intrusion is required. In such cases, a heavier specification may be more suitable.

Recommended Use

Recommended for poultry farmers who need a well-ventilated, practical, and economical chain link fencing solution for poultry shed side walls, with the flexibility of custom manufacturing based on farm requirements.

Q: My shed is 8 feet high, and I only need 8 feet chain link. Do you have it?

A: Yes. As manufacturers, we can produce poultry chain link in custom heights based on your requirement. While our most common poultry orders are 10 ft height in 100 GSM, we can also manufacture 8 ft chain link without any issue. We can supply mesh sizes from ¾” to 4” and wire diameters from 1.6 mm to 4 mm depending on your farm requirement.

Q: I need 1” chain link in 16 gauge. Do you have it?

A: Yes. We can manufacture 1” chain link in 16 gauge (1.6 mm) on request. In fact, we produce mesh sizes from ¾” to 1.5” in 16 gauge wire. While 1.25” chain link is the most commonly requested size for poultry sheds, 1” mesh is also available for customers who prefer a smaller opening.

Q: What is the maximum height of chain link you can manufacture?

A: Our production machines can manufacture custom chain link fencing up to 24 ft height. Although very tall orders are less common, we have the capability to produce larger custom sizes when required.

Q: How many years will this chain link last?

A: The expected service life of 100 GSM, 1.6 mm poultry chain link depends on installation conditions and local climate. As a general guide, it typically lasts around 6–8 years in coastal or humid areas and 7–9 years in dry areas. Actual life may vary depending on exposure to moisture, litter contact, and maintenance conditions.

Q: Can I get 275 GSM coating in this wire?

A: In 1.6 mm wire, 100 GSM is the standard and practical zinc coating option. Because thinner wire has less surface area, it is generally not suitable for carrying a very high zinc coating like 275 GSM. If you need a heavier zinc coating, we can guide you toward a different wire diameter or alternate specification depending on your requirement.

Q: What is better, Chain link or weld mesh?

A: For most poultry farm fencing, chain link is usually the more practical and economical option because it offers better value for larger areas, good ventilation, and flexible installation. Weld mesh can be better when smaller openings or a more rigid structure and cleaning iterations are specifically required.

“I purchased 24 bundles of poultry chain link from CHAKRA Group in 2017 for my poultry houses. During installation, only 23 bundles were used, and one bundle was accidentally left under the platform where poultry litter usually collects. I discovered it four years later in 2021. After washing it, I was surprised to see that the chain link was still shiny and strong, despite being buried in litter all that time. That experience gave me real confidence in the quality and durability of their material. Since then, I have recommended their poultry chain link to many other poultry farmers.”
